Experience New York City: History and Culture

Spend your summer immersed in the fabulous world of New York City’s history and culture, both in and outside the classroom. Combine the rigor of Columbia’s classroom learning with the excitement of New York City’s rich culture.

Opportunities to explore outside the classroom include:

  • Visiting historic sites, such as the home of Walt Whitman
  • Walking tours of New York City to map neighborhood development
  • Learning the stories behind some of the most iconic New York City buildings
  • Drawing from the city’s museums, archives and urban landscape as sites of living history and collaborative learning

Summer 2020 Session Info

Choose from one to two courses per session, for a total of up to four courses during the summer term.

  • Session 1 (D) courses are  May 26 - July 2
  • Session 2 (Q) courses are  July 6 - August 14
