Failure to complete the Next Steps (i.e., activate UNI, submit admissions verification documentation, etc.) will prevent students from adding courses to their schedule.
Students admitted to the Arts in the Summer program can enroll in film, theater, writing, and visual arts classes. Students also interested in taking a course outside these four subjects should apply to the Visiting Student program, pending eligibility.

People admitted to study at Columbia University who are not United States citizens or permanent residents must be a full-time student at Columbia—registered for at least 6 points of credit-bearing courses in a 7-week session or 12 points of credit-bearing courses in the entire 14-week summer period—in order to be eligible for a student (F-1) visa.

There are a few non-credit courses in the summer; however, the majority of classes are for-credit. Please review the course pages to check the course credits. Students on a Columbia sponsored visa cannot take a non-credit class to forgo the 6-point visa requirement.

In order to drop all of your classes, you must submit a Notice of Withdrawal Form. Once you submit this web-based form, it will automatically be routed to the SPS Student Affairs Office.

Matriculating Columbia students should check with their advisors first to ask if they need to apply for the Summer Session.
Students enrolled in an undergraduate school (CC,GS, SEAS) will have registration/ enrollment appointments on SSOL for Summer Session. Some graduate schools will be able to register via SSOL; however, please consult with your program adviser to confirm.
Waitlists are available for the summer term. If a preferred class is full, we encourage students to add themselves to the waitlist and enroll in an alternate course.Often students will change their courses through the last day of Change of Program and students can get into their first choice course.
Barnard students do not need to apply for Summer Session; however, prior to registering for summer class(es), students should submit the Application for Approval of Summer Session Courses to the Barnard Registrar’s Office. Once approved, you should be able to register/ enroll for classes via SSOL.
