Arts in the Summer Living Learning Community

New York City stands as an unrivaled epicenter of global arts and culture, where creative energy flows through every neighborhood and artistic innovation shapes the cultural landscape. Home to over 1,500 arts and cultural organizations, including world-renowned institutions like The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, and Lincoln Center, NYC offers an arts ecosystem unlike anywhere else—from the bright lights of Broadway's 41 historic theaters to the cutting-edge galleries of Chelsea and the dynamic street art of Bushwick. The city serves as both canvas and catalyst, where emerging artists work alongside established masters, experimental performances share streets with classic productions, and creative boundaries are constantly expanding. This living laboratory of artistic expression attracts the world's most ambitious creators, making every neighborhood a potential gallery, every street corner a possible stage, and every interaction an opportunity for creative discovery.

Students choosing to take arts courses at Columbia University this summer are eligible to apply for a special Living Learning Community in the residence halls. Experience the magic of New York City's arts scene while living in Columbia's vibrant Summer Arts Living Learning Community, where you'll share a creative home with fellow artists and cultural enthusiasts from around the world. Students living in the Summer Arts Living Learning Community will have access to special arts programming throughout the city. Whether you're collaborating with peers in dedicated creative spaces or exploring NYC’s street art scene with your community, you'll be part of a supportive artistic family that makes your Columbia summer truly unforgettable.
