Columbia and Barnard Students

Students enrolled at Columbia or Barnard do not need to apply to the Summer Session. Students only need to enroll and register for courses.

Visiting Students

The Visiting Students program is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at another institution as well as individuals who have graduated with a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) from another institution.

Those who fit any of these categories are eligible for the Visiting Students program and may find more information, including application requirements and deadlines.

American Language Program

The ALP program is for those looking to build their English language skills. Courses are available at pre-intermediate and advanced levels. The program is open to any applicant aged 17 and older who has reached a pre-intermediate (CEFR A2) level of English proficiency. For more information, including testing assessment, course placement, and how to apply, please visit the School of Professional Studies website.

International Students

Students who are not United States citizens or permanent residents must be a full-time student at Columbia—registered for at least 6 points of credit-bearing courses in a 6-week session or 12 points of credit-bearing courses in the entire 12-week summer period—in order to be eligible for a student (F-1) visa. Please visit the ISSO website for detailed visa instructions. Learn more about options for international students.
