A Program that Fits Your Schedule

Over the past several weeks, Columbia University has closely monitored the changing COVID-19 situation in New York City and globally, and is determined to deliver the best and safest program for our summer students. The University has confirmed that the Summer Session Programs will move to a virtual learning format for Summer 2020.

Available online this summer, you can complete the program at the pace you’re most comfortable with, whether part-time or full-time.

Online, you will interact with faculty and classmates through a social learning platform that incorporates weekly live discussion groups, independent and collaborative coursework, and forums. Courses meet at 8:30 p.m. EST online.


Based on your personal interest and professional experience, and working closely with your academic advisor, Custom Business students can choose from among more than 20 graduate-level courses taught by University faculty who are seasoned practitioners in their fields. Course subjects include:

  • risk management
  • mediation
  • negotiation
  • decision models
  • knowledge management
Who Should Apply
  • individuals seeking a foundation in business fundamentals
  • individuals who plan to pursue an MBA
  • professionals who want to enhance their knowledge in a specific area of business
  • advanced undergraduates
  • applicants with TOEFL scores below this program’s requirement should consider applying to the Business Plus program, which has an English language requirement of TOEFL iBT score between 85 and 99, or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.

The 12-point Custom Business Program, which may be completed full-time in one term or part-time over two years, is comprised of:

You may further customize your program by working with your academic advisor to substitute up to two courses with graduate-level electives in business-related subjects. Potentially you may also cross register for select courses at other Columbia schools.

To complete the program, you must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and no course grades below a C. Upon your fulfillment of all program requirements, you will receive a certificate of completion and you may request an official transcript indicating your grades.
